Business Is A Lot Like A Puzzle

Big Announcement – I am teaming up with the Women’s Business Center of Central Minnesota to coach business owners affected by COVID-19

“The test of courage comes when we are in the minority”
Ralph W. Sackman

Being a small business owner is not something most people do.  It can feel a little lonely from time to time and a little overwhelming as far as the amount of decisions that need to be made on a daily bases that have a large impact on the bigger picture.

I equate being a business owner right now with putting together a jigsaw puzzle and not just one puzzle, about 4 or 5 all at the same time.  If you have never made a jigsaw puzzle before it starts with picking a box with an image you like, then checking to see how many pieces are in it, are they interlocking pieces, and what is the size of the completed puzzle?  You have to pick a puzzle that will fit on your table, that isn’t too hard or you will never get it done and it will just sit on a table doing nothing.  If it is too easy then it is not a challenge, so why bother.  Once you have the box in hand, you open it and then open the bag of pieces and dump them onto a table. Now you sit down and start to find pieces that have part of the same image and you see if they can connect together.  Slowly, literally one piece at a time, the puzzle pieces come together to create one unified image.

Business operations is typically like that, it just isn’t usually 4 to 5 puzzles at a time.  That is why I am so excited to make this big announcement. I have been contracted by the Women’s Business Center of Central Minnesota, until April, 2021,from a grant, to assist and coach women business owners in the seven county area they represent (Benton, Crow Wing, Kanabec, Mille Lacs, Morrison, Stearns, Todd ).  I am so excited to be doing this type of work right now.  2020 has been a heck of a year for business owners and I have really been looking for a way that I can give back to the community by helping the local businesses and this opportunity is a huge win for the community, myself and WBC.

The Women’s Business Center of Central Minnesota (a portion of the non-profit Entrepreneur Fund, designed especially to assist and build up women-owned businesses) secured a grant just to aid and assist with additional business consulting services.  Now that they have the grant they can offer my services for free.

Back to the jigsaw puzzle analogy, each time I get to work with another business owner it feels like they are sharing all of their puzzles with me and I get to help put in a bunch of pieces and then move onto the next challenge and create a vision of how it should look when the puzzle is done and then we toss all the pieces out and start to build from there.

You are not in this alone and if there is any way that we can assist you, that is what we are here for.

Please if you are running a business in one of these seven counties in Central Minnesota reach out to me and let me know how I can help.
