Hi, have you ever thought about how your neurodiversity or somebody you know that has a neurodiversity, ADHD, dyslexia, autism, and a plethora of other actual items fall under that, different thinking, neurodiversity by the way just means a different way of thinking at times, different processing. That type of thing. Anyways, have you ever thought about the connection between professional athletes, highly successful athletes and highly successful neurodiverse individuals? I have. I’ve had the privilege of working with both and coaching both and what I can tell you is a ton of similarities between those two and understanding that and learning more about it, I highly encourage you a lot of the time. So, next time you’re watching sports and you see incredible athletic ability and so fort, know that a lot of time and energy went into that and know that athlete probably knows themselves better than most people walking around. They have studied themselves they have studied how they think, they have studied how they move, all those types of things. Most of my highly successful neurodiverse leaders, same thing. They know themselves very very well and that’s how they’ve gotten to where they are at. So, this week I actually created an article comparing some of that and highlighting some of the connections between professional athletes and highly successful individuals with neurodiversities, different thinking. I can run through them really quick, I highly recommend you read the article.

Embracing differences, being resilient and persevering, absolutely, having high emotional intelligence– if that is something that you recognize you want to move up in leadership, you want to move up within your organization or possibly you’re running a company and you might not feel like you have that, I would highly recommend that you work on some of your emotional intelligence, that– very helpful tool and necessary, obviously a strong work ethic which talking to a neurodiverse person I rarely worry about their work ethic, I have not run into that problem, innovative thinking– that’s just a natural for us so it’s really cool being around athletes, watching them, and so forth, they’re also innovative thinkers and on-the-fly quite often, breaking stereotypes– I put that in there because so often we can think of an athlete as, we can maybe discount their brilliance and their skill just because they have so much physical ability and a lot of times that can also happen for neurodiverse people and so when we are successful to the outside world, it causes, it breaks down stereotypes that a lot of people have had, and with that comes with the fact that you also– this is my last item– inspire other people, which is a great thing about being successful.

I am JoyGenea, international neurodiversity coach, championing your success and wishing you all the best. Bye now.
