This week’s Different Thinker Motivational Moment is about a simple meditation that I actually learned from Dr. Daniel Amen. If you are neurodiverse, I highly recommend checking him out. Read up on his background and bio, and look into the Amen Clinics. They’re pretty incredible!
Dr. Amen was one of the first people to step out and advocate for neurodiversity, different thinking, and ways to support those individuals really well. Although he didn’t use that language initially, he’s never been shy about his own neurodiversity.
One of the things he’s taught me through my training is a simple meditation, and it goes like this:
You use your fingertips, engaging them as you repeat the words, “Sa Toe Ma Ta.” You can do this for a couple of minutes or even longer—10 to 15 minutes if needed.
Sometimes you just think the words in your head without saying anything. Other times, you say them out loud—maybe even really loud: “Sa Ma!” And sometimes, you whisper them very quietly. This process is a form of meditation.
It’s a simple and effective tool you can use to de-escalate when you’re feeling a little anxious, overwhelmed, or escalated by a situation.
I’m JoyGenea, an International Neurodiversity Coach, cheering you on every step of the way for being an amazing different thinker and changing the world.
Bye now!
