I pushed back on my own internal dialogue this week.
The question was not whether the project was perfect. It was whether five and done was a win. It was. And naming that made a shift that was measurable and one I am continuing to explore.
Here is what most high-performing founders miss about constraint. It is not about adding more rules to the ones you already broke. It is about taking the old rules off completely and making new ones that actually fit the task in front of you.
I used a timer. I chunked the work differently. I made it a game. How much can I get done in this window if I set it up this way? That one shift in framing moved something that had been sitting still.
Five and done beats perfect and pending every time. Your operating system does not need more pressure. It needs a different set of rules for this specific situation.
What is one thing on your list right now that you are holding to a standard it was never going to meet?

And it felt really good to push back to my own internal dialogue and really start to recognize what’s the win in this? Is it everything’s at a 10, or is the win on this that it’s at a five and done? It was at a five and done, for sure, with this project. S- so constraints can be valuable, and I hope in talking about this, I’m getting you to think about how you might have some things in your life that you wanna move forward and how you might put just some fun and friendly constraints on them.
Like I said, I kinda gamed it. I used the timer, and I chunked it differently than I normally would and just went, “Let’s play a game. How much of this can I get done in this timeframe if I set it up like th…” I took away the other rules, and I made new rules, and that quite often can be so much more rewarding and can create a lot better results.
