✨ Have you ever longed for space to set down responsibilities, recharge, and focus on the projects that really matter?
In this video, I share the story behind how my Focused Refresh Retreat got started. Over 10 years ago, I attended a women’s retreat that completely changed my life. I finally had the time and space to pause, reflect, and work on projects without distractions.
That weekend experience inspired me to create retreats of my own, designed especially for different thinkers and leaders. These retreats are all about creating balance: a place to deeply focus and also refresh, so you can return to leadership responsibilities with energy, clarity, and momentum.
🌲 Learn how stepping away can sometimes be the most powerful step forward.

So I really wanna share an experience that I had, and how this got started, how the Focused Refresh Retreat kind of got started.
So again, I stepped away from the team, and I’m outside for a little bit. And as you can see, like this is an area that people can hang out in, and this is the fire pit. And we sit around and we, ah, we have a great time.
So, it was probably about 10 years ago that somebody gifted me this amazing something. They gifted me an opportunity to go to a retreat. It was actually a women’s retreat. It was a weekend type thing, and it had a full chef and, and it was a writer’s retreat actually.
And I hijacked—I didn’t hijack the writer’s retreat, but I was the only one there that was not an author, that was not working on writing. And what I was there for was to just—I just wanted to do a couple of projects. I really just—that’s all I wanted to do, was be left alone and do a few projects.
And by the end of the weekend, that was—I remember crying a couple of times, cause that’s what you do when you go, “Oh my gosh, this is what I’ve been looking for and what I’ve wanted for so long.”
And what I realized what it was, was the fact I wanted to not—I wanted to put down the responsibil– see, I’m gonna get choky—I wanted to put down the responsibility. Yeah, what do you even call it? Where all the time you are responsible for so many things, which is wonderful, but every once in a while you just need to put it down.
And you need to just take care of yourself, and not be inputting more data. Actually stop the flow of data coming in, and just be able to process some stuff. And just be able to sit and be with yourself in the space. And that was incredible, to be able to do that, and to be able to work on some projects and get a couple of things done.
I came out of that pivoting my business. I came out of that knowing that I was gonna really deep dive into the coaching. It was incredible for me. And so from that, about a year later I went, “I need to have this.” So I built one, um, for myself, and then I started offering it to clients. And I’m just amazed.
And so it is—I call it a Focused Refresh Retreat, because you get to really focus, but you also get a refresh in there. It’s a priceless experience. And I’ve made sure that it is not overwhelming. It is really meant to be regenerative and productive as heck. So you can have both, and just get re—just get that refresh that you need to go back out into all the responsibilities, and everything that’s necessary for leadership.
So that’s my little secret. And that was an incredible experience years ago, and now I’m just passing it on.
So I’m JoyGenea, international leadership coach, helping the different thinkers out there to become incredible leaders. Bye now.
