Are you a highly collaborative person? Do you even know what I’m asking? Because if you are—and I’m going to tell you about it in a minute—if you are, are you making sure that you get around environments where your collaboration is not only appreciated but sought after? And it helps to grow you, and you are thriving by having those appropriate spaces where you are valued, where you are being pushed in good directions, where you’re being pulled, where you are helping to lead, helping to guide, and be part of something bigger than yourself.
So that’s what collaboration is. Collaborating is a group—when I’m using the term, I’m talking about coming together as a group of people, possibly over Zoom, possibly in person, a little of both can tend to be nice. Typically, what I’ve found in all of my years of working with people that have neurodiversities is we actually are highly collaborative. We work well in environments with other people, with like minds, with similar values, and with a lot of respect. In those spaces, we actually build up ourselves and build up others and create incredible things.
But what I found is, because of the neurodiversity, we maybe are socially awkward. We maybe don’t seek out those spaces, and unfortunately, we are thereby missing out on bringing out some of the best parts of ourselves.
So that’s my reminder this week: if you are a collaborative person, if you can identify in your life, “Boy, when I get together with a small group of these people, we do these incredible things,” guess what? You’re probably highly collaborative.
How can you add that into your leadership? How can you add that into your business? How do you have a little more of that in your life? Because guess what? I promise you that is one of the greatest ways to move yourself up a level—to bring out and become the most amazing you that you can possibly be. And I believe that is a great thing.
I’m JoyGenea, international neurodiversity coach, encouraging you to get collaborative, to create those spaces, to have some boundaries around it, and go out and just be incredible and thrive with your beautiful, different thinking.
Bye now.
