Hey, JoyGenea here, International Neurodiversity coach.

So we’ve been talking about the five things that you can do that make a difference in launching your young person into that next stage of life after graduation, after leaving the house, just that next transition. So #4 on that list is rewarding the small things and the big things.

And I’m pointing this out because so often when a neurodiverse person is moving forward, often the steps look small in advancing and quite often when you’re a parent of that or person helping somebody through that, you can see the whole picture and all the things that need to get done, and so one small step like yay, you, you know you called today and you know got got it figured out about your bed at the dorm. OK. But that’s you’re like, but there’s still 100  things to do.

It’s really easy to kind of get stuck in that, but I’m really encouraging you when it comes to launching that young person with a neurodiversity, small praises go a long way. We all appreciate that, but it can really make a difference. And just saying great things like, ohh dang, you got that done, that’s awesome, cool. And don’t follow it up with well, here’s the next thing you need to do. Just relish that moment, enjoy that for just a second and then a little bit later you bring up OK, so I’m thinking you did so successful at that or that went so well or we know we’re moving things forward. The next task that we’re working towards is X.

So, just a way to consider modifying that a little bit and possibly getting greater results by celebrating the smaller moments. Thanks for joining me. I’m JoyGenea, International Neurodiversity Coach, and we’ve got one more #5 to go, so please check it out.
