What flexibility does for my leadership

This week, I am talking about how rigidity can hold leaders back, so we have to also talk about how flexibility pushes us forward!

For me, flexibility means traveling to new locations, taking on new challenges, and engaging my creative thinking. Moving around and seeing new places and meeting new people helps me engage in my life how I want to and perform my best as a coach.

What do you do to keep from getting too stuck in your ways? How do you practice flexibility?

Let me take you a little bit into my world for just a second. Um no, I’m not in Minnesota, and I’m not exactly gonna explain where I am. You probably hear the wind, maybe you can hear me um, yes you can tell like this is the conversation I’m having this week, which is about rigidity and flexibility, because see the vehicle see, see the other camper, see the tall camp- like let’s just say this trip started out in one direction and it’s currently residing in a whole another direction. And I, even though my clients are the ones that reminded me about rigidity this last week, I have to say it was a great reminder for myself, because sometimes we do get too rigid about our systems, too structured about things and it can be detrimental to our health, honestly. And that is one of the great things that getting out and adventuring reminds me, and it’s part of the reason I do push and do this from time to time, is because I otherwise can get a little too set in my ways, get a little too comfortable in the day-to-day, and before you know it I’m not engaging in life the way that I usually do, and that’s not okay for me, that’s not good for my clients, that’s just not what I’m gonna allow to happen. And so, part of the way I change it up is I move locations literally physically from time to time, and it’s really helpful, and it reminds me that I need to be flexible. And flexibility brings out much better leadership from me and the people around me, and I find the same thing is true for all of my clients. So, this is my reminder to you- be a little flexible because I’ll give you a few hints on this trip. Can’t control the weather. Cannot control other people. Can’t control the equipment. Let it all go and be grateful to be upright and standing and healthy, and that’s where I’m at right now- being flexible, can’t control the wind, can’t control all the things, anyways what you can’t control you should handle and manage. That’s what coaching helps out with.
